Dental Check-up and Cleans

Regular Check-Up and Clean Appointment are the foundation of long-term optimal oral health.

When having your Dental Check-up and Clean you can expect a thorough yet comfortable appointment.

Your Dentist and Dental Team is here to work with you and provide information to care for your mouth. There are two components to the appointment — the Dental Check-up and the Dental Clean.

What A Check-up and Clean Appointment Involves

A Thorough Dental Check-Up

At the Dentist appointment at Brisbane Smiles, your Dentist will start with discussing your current health and any concerns you have with your mouth.

The Dentist will then perform a detailed examination of your mouth for signs of abnormalities.

The teeth and gums are checked for health or any areas of weaknesses. At the end, your Dentist will walk you through any findings and discuss any recommended treatments!

Teeth and Gum Clean

For the last part of your Dentist appointment at Brisbane Smiles, your Dental Hygienist will professionally clean your teeth and gums.

Using modern technologies such as an Ultrasonic Scaler or an Air-Powder Polisher they will remove any plaque, tartar and staining around the teeth and gums! The Dental Clean Brisbane Smiles is always a comfortable and professional experience.

They will apply a Fluoride Treatment, and your teeth will be sparkling and breath fresh again!

#1 PATIENT EXPERIENCE

New Patient Dental Check-up and Clean

The first appointment for a New Patient is made with a comprehensive approach. Firstly, the Dentist Check-up will be performed with a Dentist and be scheduled for approximately 40-60 minutes. Secondly, you will have a Clean and Fluoride Treatment with a Dental Hygienist scheduled for approximately 50 minutes.

You may require additional more detailed and deeper cleaning at subsequent appointments at additional costs.

Additional Tests/X-Rays/Scans

Additional tests may be required during your Dentist Check-up. Modern Dental Care is evolving very quickly with the aid of digital technologies. Digital X-Ray Sensors significantly reduce radiation levels and newer 3D CBCT X-Rays allow better visualisation of inside your teeth and jaw bone.

Standard Dental Bitewing X-rays are recommended on a minimum of 2 yearly basis and OPG Panoramic X-Rays are taken on a similar basis but at all times only where necessary.

3D Teeth and Jaw Scans using the 3-Shape Trios 3 Camera can capture an entire mouth record in just a few minutes and provide valuable treatment planning and diagnostic value.

Dental Assessment During Check-Up Appointment

At the Dentist Check-up, Dentists are checking for more than just Tooth Decay:

  • Soft-tissues of the mouth for any abnormality or tumours
  • Jaw Joint Assessment – for any damage or signs of grinding
  • Teeth health for signs of cracks, decay, wear, erosion
  • Gum health for signs of gum disease and bone loss
  • Bite Setup for signs of grinding, cracks or damage caused to the teeth
  • Cosmetic appearance of your teeth

During your check-up your Dental Hygienist will be assisting the Dentist by cleaning your teeth, taking any required x-rays and advising you on your home care. Your Hygienist can take impressions for whitening and mouth-guards.

The Role of a Dental Hygienist at Your Dental Clean Brisbane Smiles Appointment

It is your Dental Hygienist’s job to help you understand the importance of oral health, and deal with tooth and gum nasties before they become a problem.

What does a Dental Hygienist Do?

  • Help detect, treat and prevent gum disease
  • Provide Dental Clean Brisbane services to keep your teeth, gums, and smiles looking healthy and beautiful
  • Help monitor the strength of your teeth
  • Identify and help improve dietary factors that may lead to dental decay
  • Test for bacteria and biology that may lead to dental decay

Additional Information

Dental Health Education

Whether your own dental health and needs have changed, you’d like to learn more about caring for your smile, or you’re teaching your little ones the importance of brushing; your Dental Hygienist is trained to provide expert advice and simple-to-follow instructions to meet your specific needs, so you can maintain the best possible oral health practices at home between visits. For parents, this can mean assisting in teaching children great oral health practices from a young age, in an approachable and friendly way. You will receive this valuable information during your Dental Clean Brisbane Smiles appointment.

Many people think of plaque as something that only occurs as a result of poor oral hygiene, but the reality is that the formation of plaque is a natural process that can’t be stopped – it’s preventing plaque build-up that’s most important.

Plaque is a sticky, colourless film of bacteria that develops on the teeth, causing that ‘fuzzy’ feeling if teeth are not brushed. Plaque forms when sugars and starches are left on teeth, though it can also develop on tooth roots under the gum line. Regular brushing and flossing will remove most of the plaque on your teeth, but it’s an important part of your dental hygienist’s job to check for any plaque build-up, especially in hard-to-reach areas, and remove that build up to prevent decay and disease.

Brushing and flossing are the most important things you can do on a daily basis to prevent the onset of tooth decay, but at-home precautions should only be half of your smile-care routine. Nothing beats the plaque-busting power of a professional Dental Clean Brisbane Smiles session with your Dental Clinic Hygienist, so if you haven’t yet booked yourself in, now’s the time to do it.

Depending on the condition and health of your teeth and gums, your hygienist may use an array of instruments to loosen and remove plaque and tartar build-up and deposits. The Dental Clean Brisbane Smiles process can include teeth scaling, polishing and debridement, and your hygienist will talk you through the cleaning process and explain the steps they’re taking, and what to expect, to keep your comfortable.

Any invasive or surgical procedure has risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner. No dental treatment is suitable for each and every patient. Dentists will only provide care which is suitable to the individual. Patients of Brisbane Smiles must complete examination and consultation appointments to deem suitability for procedures and full informed consent be given by the patient.
