When You Should See The Dentist

Modern day life sees us all struggling to maintain a healthy work/life balance. Sometimes it seems there are just not enough hours in the day.  Consequently some “jobs” tend to get put on the back burner. One of these “jobs” tends to be visiting the dentist. Making time to visit the dentist is something we should all do.

Research has shown that regular check- ups help us to maintain a healthy smile and prevent serious oral health issues in later life. Here are ten tell tale signs you should see a dentist.

Teeth are sensitive- If you are experiencing sensitivity to hot and cold foods, tooth decay could be the problem. Tooth decay effects the surface of the tooth first before effecting the centre of the tooth. The sooner the problem is treated the greater chance of reducing the risk of serious complication.

Inflamed Gums- If your gums are swollen or inflamed then you definitely need to pay your dentist a visit. Swollen gums or gums that bleed are caused by plaque build-up and if this is not treated early it can develop into a more serious condition called gingivitis or periodontitis. These conditions can cause tooth loss.

Bad Breath or bad taste- If you are suffering from bad breath or a bad taste in your mouth, even though you regularly brush your teeth, you need to see your dentist. Bad breath can be the onset of gingivitis and if left untreated it can lead to tooth loss.

Dry Mouth- There are many issues which can cause a dry mouth, age or prescription drugs are two of the causes. However if you are suffering from a dry mouth it is important to visit your dentist to rule out bacteria or disease in the mouth.

You should also see your dentist if you are suffering with jaw pain, would like to whiten your teeth or if you have not been to the Dentist for over six months!
