The Dental Implant Process: What You Need To Know

Dental Implants offer a permanent, natural-looking solution for replacing missing or badly damaged teeth. At Brisbane Smiles, we help patients restore comfort, function, and confidence with custom-designed Dental Implants that look and feel like real teeth.

Whether you need to replace a single tooth, multiple teeth, or support a full jaw of replacements, we are here to help you understand what to expect from the Dental Implant process – from your first visit to your final smile.

What Is a Dental Implant?

What Is a Dental Implant?

Dental Implants are titanium posts placed into the jawbone to replace the roots of missing teeth. These are then completed with custom-made Porcelain Crowns designed to match your smile.

They restore both function and appearance – allowing you to eat, speak, and smile confidently.

Dental Implants can be used to:

  • Replace a single tooth
  • Replace multiple teeth
  • Support full-arch bridges or stabilise dentures

They are a strong, stable alternative to removable dentures, and with proper care, can last for many years.

The Dental Implant Process: Step by Step

The Dental Implant process at Brisbane Smiles involves a series of carefully planned appointments. Each stage is customised to suit your individual treatment needs and timeline. To ensure you never go without a smile, we plan for temporary Crowns, Bridges, or Dentures where needed – so there’s no visible gap in your smile between treatment stages.

1. Consultation & Treatment Planning

The process begins with a detailed consultation and diagnostic imaging, including 3D scanning. Your Dentist will assess your jawbone, gums, and medical history to confirm suitability and design your ideal treatment plan. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and explore all options available.

2. Implant Placement

The titanium implant is gently placed into the jawbone during a surgical appointment, typically under local anaesthetic or IV sedation. For your comfort and convenience, we provide temporary teeth while the implant heals beneath the surface.

3. Healing Phase

Over the following months, the bone integrates with the implant through a process called osseointegration. This forms a strong foundation for your final Crown or Bridge. During this time, our team monitors healing and prepares for the final restoration.

4. Final Crown Placement

Once the Implant has fully healed, a custom-designed Porcelain Crown is secured to the post. It’s colour-matched and shaped to blend seamlessly with your natural teeth – restoring function and aesthetics.

Benefits of Dental Implants

Dental Implants are a modern, long-lasting solution for replacing missing teeth. Whether you’ve lost a tooth due to injury, decay or gum disease, implants can restore both form and function – helping you eat, speak and smile with confidence again.

Beyond the visible improvements, Dental Implants support the health of your jaw by helping to maintain bone structure and prevent the changes that can occur when teeth are missing. With proper care, they offer comfort, stability, and a natural feel – without the need for removable appliances.

For patients needing multiple teeth replaced, implant-supported options can be tailored to provide the right balance of function, appearance and long-term benefits.

Are You a Candidate for Dental Implants?

Dental Implants can treat dental issues such as missing, broken or loose teeth, and instances of severe gum disease. This solution works to treat the appearance of teeth as well as functionality such as eating and chewing.

You may be suitable for Dental Implants if you:

  • Have one or more missing or loose teeth
  • Are looking for a fixed alternative to dentures
  • Have damaged or failing teeth that need replacement
  • Are in good general and oral health
  • Have adequate jawbone support (or are open to grafting if required)

Even if you’ve experienced bone loss, advanced techniques such as bone grafting may make implants possible. Every case is assessed individually.
