Teeth Whitening Information
Teeth whitening is the process of removing stains from the enamel of your teeth by applying a special bleaching material.
The bleaching material penetrates the outer layer of the enamel and takes out stains that cannot be removed otherwise. Professional Tooth Whitening systems are administered and overseen by your Dentist and Dental team.
Professional Tooth Whitening can be done in the Dental office or with a take-home kit. Both approaches typically use a peroxide-based bleach solution to whiten your teeth.
The Procedure
Tooth Whitening performed in the Dental office involves applying a strong peroxide material to your teeth for a period of time. This bleach solution is removed at the end of your Dental appointment. During the appointment, a Zoom LED Light may be used to increase the effect of in-office bleaching. Regardless of whether the light is used or not, you should leave the dental office with notably whiter teeth.
Whitening Gels provided from other than your Dentist are often not effective solutions/concentrations and may cause irreversible damage to the mouth and teeth.
The Cost
We will give you an outline of the estimated cost of Teeth Whitening. Prior to Teeth Whitening, you will need to have a professional Clean at the Dentist. Following Teeth Whitening, you will need to replace any fillings/crowns/veneers/dentistry which is of poor colour match, should this concern you. You will also need to plan to redo teeth whitening periodically depending on your diet.
Risks & Results
Some inherent risks exist with any Tooth Whitening system. You must take the following factors into consideration when deciding whether to bleach your teeth.
There is a risk that your teeth or gums will become sensitive to the bleach solution and you may need to discontinue the treatment before the desired tooth colour is achieved.
Once the procedure is commenced, there is no ability for a refund, and the result is unpredictable. In the rare and most extreme cases, tooth whitening may lead to tooth sensitivity that requires root canal treatment in order for it to resolve.
Tooth whitening will not alter the colour of existing Dental restorations. Sometimes Dental work must be replaced if you want it to match your new, lighter teeth after tooth whitening is done. This Dental work is an additional cost for the patient.
Patients with poor Dental home care or diets high in staining foods such as coffee, red wine, tea or berries may find their teeth become stained again more quickly than expected.
Normally, Tooth Whitening must be repeated periodically to maintain the brightness of your smile.

Typically, suitable patients will only experience mild discomfort with Zoom Teeth Whitening or mild increased tooth sensitivity after treatment.
Professional Teeth Whitening Vs Over-The-Counter Teeth Whitening
You may be wondering what the difference is between Professional Teeth Bleaching Treatment and over-the-counter whitening strips, pens and trays. The primary difference is that Professional Teeth Whitening is far more effective and safer for your oral health. Over-the-counter Teeth Whitening does not provide a solution that is strong enough to noticeably improve teeth shade. Having an Oral Health Professional perform Teeth Whitening ensures that it is performed safely.
What Causes Tooth Discolouration and Stains?
There is a range of causes for tooth discolouration and staining. Teeth can become discoloured due to genetics, ageing, neglecting oral health, a poor diet and consuming excessive coffee, alcohol and smoking. It’s important to address these factors alongside Brisbane Teeth Whitening Treatment to ensure your best oral health.
How Long Does Teeth Whitening Last?
How long the results of Teeth Bleaching last will depend on the quality of your treatment and your oral health habits. In most cases, Zoom Teeth Whitening can last up to two years. Avoiding teeth-staining foods, maintaining an oral hygiene routine and limiting alcohol, caffeine and smoking can enhance the length of results.
