Missing Teeth Problems
There are many reasons why people lose teeth, and it’s not always due to old age or poor dental hygiene. Dentures used to be the default option when it came to filling in the gaps, but these aren’t always a practical choice. Missing teeth cause several other problems, so it is most common for missing teeth problems to be solved with dental implant treatments these days.
Gum Problems
If you have one or more missing teeth, this can cause ongoing problems with gums. Your gums can get sore or become inflamed, and the remaining healthy teeth can become sensitive too. Using implants can stop your gums receding any further and can dramatically decrease the pain and discomfort you are experiencing. If gum disease progresses to the end stages, it can cause you to lose even more teeth, or for your teeth to become loose and uncomfortable. Gum disease and receding gums can also cause your dentures to become ill-fitting and even more uncomfortable.
Appearance
Many people find their self-confidence is adversely affected by having to wear dentures, or by having obvious gaps in their teeth. They find it hard to smile for pictures, and may actively avoid situations where they have to talk to people or smile. Implants look natural and are indistinguishable from your other teeth. Having implants will allow you to smile with confidence again and not worry about the appearance of your teeth.
Eating
Many people with missing teeth or who wear dentures feel they have to avoid eating certain foods as they get stuck under the denture plate and cause irritation, or because they need to be chewed thoroughly. Nuts, seeded bread, popcorn, steak and sweetcorn are among the most commonly avoided foods, but as implants are fitted firmly into your jaw on a permanent basis, you can eat normally again.
