After TeethXpress Surgery
TeethXpress is a full jaw or mouth Dental Implant procedure, to deliver an entirely new set of teeth placed on four, five or six dental implants, in one day.
You will be given the following instructions for the initial healing period and medications.
Over the next few days you will experience tenderness, bruising and swelling. Get as much rest as possible and drink lots of fluids.
Daily Care
Starting tomorrow, gently rinse with the prescribed Mouthwash twice a day and other times a rinse with salt water (1 teaspoon of salt in a glass of luke-warm water). Clean the immediate bridge by gently brushing with a toothpaste.
Your Immediate Bridge will be inserted at the time of surgery or in the first days following surgery.
After two (2) weeks you can gently use a waterpik slowly, however you should be shown by our Hygiene team who to do so at your 2-week review appointment.
Do not exercise strenuously for 7 days following surgery.
Diet and Healing
During the Healing period it is important to follow instructions if you want the treatment to be successful.
You can eat with a soft diet throughout the healing period (usually 3 months until x-ray review) and you should avoid chewing on hard food and objects like ice and nuts throughout this period.
Do not use a straw for 3 days after surgery. Eat very soft pureed foods as necessary until it becomes comfortable to eat normal foods. Always eat soft foods to make sure you do not harm your implants or temporary teeth.
Do not eat foods like chips, popcorn etc which may get stuck in the surgical healing sites.
The gums and soft tissues will heal over 4 weeks, but the bone around the implants will require 3 months to heal.
Please be cautious with your temporary bridge. If your bridge feels loose, or you experience cracks in the bridge you need to immediately return and do not eat on the bridge until it has been checked. This usually relates to a hard bite or chewing.
Discomfort
At first you will experience mild discomfort and swelling to the surgical procedure. Over the following days this will settle to general soreness.
For mild discomfort, take Ibuprofen or Paracetamol as necessary. 1-2 tablets every 4-6 hours as instructions display.
For moderate pain, take both Ibuprofen and Paracetamol together can be more effective. 1-2 tablets every 4-6 hours as instructions display.
For severe pain, take the prescribed Panadiene Forte or Endone as prescribed.
Bleeding
Mild bleeding will occur in the first 24 hours, and less in the following days upto 1 week. Try not to chew too much as this can increase bleeding. Avoid rinsing vigorously, spitting, smoking.
Swelling
Swelling usually peaks by 3 days. During the first 2 days you can place icepacks onto the side of your face or areas of the extractions to help reduce swelling. Sleeping with your head elevated can also help with reducing swelling.
Antibiotics and Pain Relief
Take your Antibiotics, Anti-inflammatories and Pain Medications as required. If you develop a rash or hives, discontinue all medications and contact your Dentist or an Emergency Department. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery after taking pain medications.
As you Antibiotics are finishing, you should be feeling little pain and infections settled. If not, please call the practice during business hours to arrange a second course of Antibiotics.
No Smoking
You should not smoke or vape. Not only does this decrease the healing and increase pain, but smoking is associated with increased Dental Implant failure.
Temporary Bridge
The immediate temporary bridge will be inserted at the time of surgery, or in the days following surgery when a Nexus bridge. This appointment is usually without any local anaesthetic, but local anaesthetic can be used if necessary.
Follow-ups
Return for a Review Appointment 2-weeks following surgery. Sutures will be removed during this visit.
A 3 month review will involve OPG and Intraoral X-rays to assess the healing of the bone of the jaws and confirm the timing for the next phase of treatment, to have the final bridges made and inserted. Changes to shapes and shade can be made during this process, along with any additional back teeth will be added to the final bridges.
